The origins of yoga date back over 5,000 years ago in India. The word yoga in Sanskrit means to “yoke”, unite, join or connect. The practice of yoga sets out to unite the mind, body and sprit. According to T.V.K. Desikachar , yoga aims to “… direct the mind exclusively towards an object and sustain that direction without any distractions- the stilling of the mind.”
